Climate

¡@Taiwan is a subtropical island. The climate varies considerably from a tropical climate in the southwest coastal region, to a temperate climate in the northland and the mountainous regions. The average annual temperatures are 21.7 C (71.2 F) in the north and 24.1 C (75.7 F) in the south.

¡@Spring is warm and mild but there is frequent rain throughout the country. Summer is a typhoon season usually in July and August with the hottest temperatures from 27 C to 35 C (in the 80's and 90's F). Autumn temperatures are ideal, and this is the driest time of the year. Winter is damp and chilly, with snow only falling on the island's highest mountains.

¡@In general, visitors should wear lightweight clothing from April through November; sweaters and coats are necessary only from December through March.
